Background
Theodore 'Tiger' Flowers was a southpaw middleweight from Georgia who became the first African American world middleweight champion by beating Harry Greb in 1926. Known as the 'Georgia Deacon' for his religious devotion, he died in 1927 from complications after eye surgery.
